The Studio Process | Original & Commissioned Gold Leaf Paintings

Every Luxe Wall Art piece begins long before gold leaf is laid or pigment meets canvas. Whether an original painting or a commissioned artwork created for a specific interior, the studio process is deliberate, layered, and structurally engineered.

This is not production. It is construction, built in stages to ensure depth, presence, and long-term integrity.

Foundation & Surface Preparation

Each canvas is carefully prepared to create a stable, archival foundation capable of supporting layered paint, sculptural texture, and metallic leaf. The ground must be balanced, neither too absorbent nor too sealed, allowing materials to bond correctly.

Though rarely visible once complete, this stage determines the longevity of the finished original or commissioned work.

Composition & Structural Mapping

Before layering begins, composition is mapped. Scale, balance, proportion, movement, and negative space are considered in relation to interior placement.

For commissioned paintings, this stage may also involve spatial reference and dialogue with the collector to ensure the work integrates harmoniously within its intended environment.

Layering & Texture Development

Paint is applied in controlled stages. Some works require smooth, blended transitions; others build raised texture through palette knife application, gel mediums, or sculptural layering.

Each layer is allowed to cure fully before the next is introduced, ensuring structural stability rather than surface heaviness.

Gold Leaf Integration

Where gold leaf is incorporated, it is applied by hand as part of the compositional structure. It is never placed as surface embellishment. Instead, metallic areas are integrated so they respond to surrounding pigment and texture.

Refinement & Resolution

Edges are refined. Transitions are softened or sharpened. Highlights are recalibrated. This stage ensures cohesion — every element must belong within the composition.

Sealing & Archival Protection

Once complete, each original and commissioned painting is protected using professional-grade isolation coats and varnishes selected for durability and clarity.

This final stage safeguards pigment depth and metallic integrity, supporting longevity across decades when properly cared for.

Presentation & Delivery

Finished works are inspected, documented, and prepared for delivery. Original paintings are signed and accompanied by documentation. Commissioned artworks are delivered with care, ensuring structural protection in transit and refined presentation upon arrival.

Closing

A Luxe Wall Art piece is not created quickly. It is constructed through preparation, mapping, layering, integration, and refinement, until it carries the presence it was designed to hold.

It is not simply decorative.

It is enduring.

It is built with intention.
